Trig Mod is a modulator similar to Ableton's stock Envelope MIDI or Expression Control devices, except modulations are triggered by an incoming signal reaching a set volume threshold instead of incoming MIDI notes!

This is useful for tracks where MIDI has been flattened to audio, or you are using a phrase or loop without MIDI access.

FEATURES:

The device currently has three modulation modes:

  • Envelope (Env) - This uses attack, decay, sustain, and release (ADSR) values in milliseconds to shape a modulation each time the threshold is triggered. This is based off of the Envelope MIDI device, except it's for audio application rather than MIDI.
  • Random - This mode outputs a random value each time the threshold is crossed by incoming audio. It includes optional rise and fall parameters to travel to the next random value at either Logarithmic or Linear rates. In addition, it comes with a skewing interface for biasing the random values to specific ranges. This is based off of the Random mode from Expression Control.
  • Steps - Sequence the output values of the device in a given order, which the device counts each threshold trigger to determine which step to output. You can control the amount of steps in the rotation, and the increment of the values which are equally divided amongst the given range. This is included with the same Rise and Fall parameters in the Random mode. In addition, this mode is completely randomizable by clicking the "Randomize" button. You can also choose whether or not you want certain parameters to randomized by the button.

The threshold value can be found on the right side of the device, where you'll see the amplitude of the incoming signal over time. The range of this interface can be controlled by the "Gain" knob, which only controls the value that the device reads, not changing the output gain. You can also choose to mute the signal output for modulating parameters on other tracks. If you find the threshold triggering to be too quick and snappy, you can reduce the sensitivity with the "Return" knob, which defines a safe range to prevent re-triggering in.

Lastly, introduced in Live 12's modulators, this devices also comes with the new Modulation mode which lets you automate some devices' parameters while they're being modulated. This mode is signified with a blue "M" box. You can also choose to modulate in the classic "Remote" setting, where the range of modulation on a parameter is absolute. This is signified with a yellow "R" button after clicking the "M" button.

You can also get this device in the All Max For Live Devices Bundle, which includes every device I sell plus future ones at a significantly reduced price.
